Carved Waka Taua with paua shell decorations. Waka Taua which was known as a large decorated canoe used by Maoris for war over the water. Traditionally the war canoe was highly tapu (inviolable). No cooked food was allowed in the craft and the waka had to be entered over the gunwales, not the bow or stern which were highly decorated with powerful symbols.
Hand carved in New Zealand with native timber and paua shells. Packed in parts, simple assembling required, no glue needed.
