Sterling silver kowhai flower pendant with silver-plated dressing chain.  Designed by Blenheim designer Jamie Sun.

For some New Zealanders, kowhai is an unofficial national tree. In the past, Maori makes use of the bark, flowers, leaves and juice from kowhai for traditional rongoa (medicine). The flowers of kowhai were also an important source of the yellow dye. Since kowhai usually blooms in between later winter and earlier spring, it can also be seen as a symbol of spring.
